How to avoid Misinformation

Posted on

Are you aware of that you are pretty used to misinformation unintentionally? In these days, we are using many social media platforms and worldwide websites on which it is quite easy to receive misinformation and spams. If we used these low quality information in our research paper and thesis, we would lose creditability and that would lead to affect our grade. So, we have to distinguish accurate information from inaccurate ones before letting them involve in research paper and thesis. There are many guidelines suggested by experts how to avoid inaccurate information. Among of these, let’s explore three basic quick guides by “libguides of University of West Florida” (2022) in this essay. They are to check credentials, sources and dates.

In order to sort out misinformation problems, the first thing we should do is to check credentials of the articles and authors. As stated in “libguides of University of West Florida” (2022), we have to discover that “Is the author specialised in the field that the article is concerned with? Google search to see if the author can speak about the subject with authority and accuracy.” Based on many of the experts, we must check credentials of the articles and authors somehow to make our paper strong enough.

After only checking credentials, we’re not supposed to apply that article to our paper. We also have to take account about sources of articles which is nearly important as the credentials. When an article cites sources, it’s good to check them out and if you can’t find sources, we must read as much about the topic as we can to get a feel for what is already out there (“libguides of University of West Florida” ,2022). Actually, it is suggested that we’d better get information from creditable websites and not to be lazy to search and read about our topic.

Among of the above three quick guides, the simplest and easiest way to follow is to check the dates of the article. Expired date information could see on almost every staff around us like fruits and vegetables, eggs, milks, etc. These things are not supposed to be used beyond the expired date and so information isn’t. As “libguides of University of West Florida” (2022) said, in many cases, we should use most up-to-date information we can find. It is undeniable that building our paper with out of date information can let down the examiners or auditors.

As inaccurate information becomes problem these days, we should put effort to sort out accurate ones from them and then carefully decide for ourselves. We must do the same while writing our papers. So, before applying the fact in our research paper or thesis, we’ve to check credential, sources and dates of the article as mentioned above to avoid misinformation and get great impression.
