Nowadays, most people believe that going to university is a task that must take for the students. University can be a great place for students but not every student. Going to university can improve students and must be taken surely but it does not exactly mean that you can get a well-paid job. Throughout this essay, I will illustrate about the benefits and issues of going to university.

First of all, going to university can provide better job opportunities. Most of job applications require a bachelor or master degree depending on the positions and fields. In fact, Joubert (2020) stated that College graduates see 57 percent more job opportunities than non-graduates, and it is estimated that, by 2020, two-thirds of all jobs will require postsecondary education. Employers will not hire without a kind of academic qualifications and skills. Also, university degrees increases the percentage of getting a job of individual and that is the fact why people think having a university degree can guarantee a better job and future for the life.

Secondly, going to university also improve students’ social skills, teamwork skills, imagination, idea, entrepreneurship, confidence, responsibility, planning, analysis, problem-solving skills, and etc. Also, university graduates could also reduce the unemployment rate.  Forbes stated that among college graduates age 25 and older with just a Bachelor’s degree, the unemployment rate was 4.7% in November 2020, compared with 9.4% in April 2020 and 1.9% in November 2019 in US.

On the other hand, going to university cost a lot of money depending on the studies. Poor families cannot afford their children to attend the university. So that, If you can’t afford to pay the tuition fees, you will end up not only graduating with a degree but also a consider amount debt. In addition students’ loan rat are dramatically increasing through the decade. According to Hanson (2022), the average total Debt-to-income among bachelor’s degree holders increases most years in the U.S. The growing of total shows that the average debt per borrower as well as the increasing rate of borrowing in the nation. Since 2006, the nation student loan debt has increased 264% ,after adjusting the inflation, the debt has increased to 158.2%. The total of annual student loan debt rate has grown at 17.6% along with the cost of college (Hanson,2022).

Last but not least, there are famous people who didn’t go to university. For example, one of the greatest female singers of pop industry Beyoncé didn’t go to university. She was the lead singer of the Destiny’s Child group and launched her solo career in 90s. She tried so much and eventually she gained a lot of money. Harvard dropout Bill Gates also proves that there is no need of university degree to get a job or to be rich. He started programming at the age of 13 and gain $20000 at the age of 15 by developing a computer program monitoring Seattle traffic patterns with Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen.

To conclude, we cannot consider that getting a job or having a bright future is depending on the university degree. American musician Frank Zappa said “If you want to get laid, go to college. If you want an education, go to the library”. Getting a great education is important but it does not mean that we can get well-paid at all. Also, having a great skills or abilities in specific fields does not also mean that we can be rich or get a smooth future. We should have both and use this degree and abilities in the society.
